Philosoraptor template

Why this format lasts

A green velociraptor scratching its chin against a sunburst background, originating on 4chan in 2008. It poses ridiculous semantic paradoxes and deep, absurd philosophical questions.

How the format works

set up the mistaken read, then reveal the sharper real read

When to use it

a specific social situation where the visual expression carries the joke

How a brand uses this

Peak early-internet logic that still works if you hit an absurd corporate paradox. Frame it around startup doublespeak, meaningless metric inflation, or the bizarre realities of remote work. The setup must sound totally earnest until the punchline reveals the fundamental contradiction.

Steal these starting points:

surface read: if we automate our entire job with scripts / real read: why are we still attending standup
surface read: if unlimited pto means take whatever you want / real read: why do i feel guilty taking dental appointments
surface read: if the sync call was to decide the meeting agenda / real read: who is deciding what the sync call is for

When NOT to use it

When the joke is just a recap; the format needs a stance or turn
Using the template as two headline labels instead of creating the native comic turn

Example captions

turn the fact into behavior, cope, reversal, or status mismatch
Surface read: doing it the old way / Real read: the obviously better way
Surface read: what we planned / Real read: what shipped
