Hard To Swallow Pills template

Why this format lasts

A four-panel webcomic by artist Raden featuring a person struggling to swallow massive medicine capsules labeled with an uncomfortable truth. It nails the sting of undeniable workplace realities people actively pretend not to notice.

How the format works

set up the mistaken read, then reveal the sharper real read

When to use it

a specific social situation where the visual expression carries the joke

How a brand uses this

Use this when your industry is collectively living in denial about an inefficient habit. It lets you call out stubborn legacy behaviors without sounding preachy, because the format explicitly frames the truth as uncomfortable medicine your audience desperately needs to take.

Steal these starting points:

surface read: We need another sync to align / real read: Nobody read the spec doc
surface read: Tracking leads across twelve spreadsheets works fine / real read: Your pipeline data is completely made up
surface read: We are a family here / real read: Please do unpaid weekend deployments

When NOT to use it

When the joke is just a recap; the format needs a stance or turn
Using the template as two headline labels instead of creating the native comic turn

Example captions

turn the fact into behavior, cope, reversal, or status mismatch
Surface read: doing it the old way / Real read: the obviously better way
Surface read: what we planned / Real read: what shipped
